The Council's Response to Planned Parenthood of the Heartland Clinic Closures

Printer-friendly version

This year, Iowa’s legislature voted to discontinue the Iowa Family Planning Network to implement a new state run family planning program.  This was done despite the fact the Iowa Family Planning Network resulted in millions of dollars in annual savings for Iowa taxpayers.  We knew the negative impact this legislation would have on family planning programs.

Yesterday, we received notice that Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, one of our Title X Sub-recipients, is closing four clinics in Iowa. The clinics are located in Sioux City, Burlington, Keokuk and Davenport. We are saddened by this news as it will further decrease access to health care services in Iowa communities with already limited resources.

While this presents additional challenges, we are working diligently with our partners to ensure access and availability of family planning services throughout these locations.
